The original image for this mural (pictured above) was made by @lucidluca β€˜It is titled The Wrath of Hikule'o'. This piece represents the goddess Hikule'o sailing back to her island victorious. She symbolizes a powerful act of reclaiming history lost to colonialism. The burning colonist ship represents a reversal of the destruction wrought by missionaries who sought to erase indigenous cultures, including the burning of statues and effigies of Hikule'o. As she sails, leading her people away from the flames, she embodies the resilience of the Pasifika people determined to rewrite their narrative, reclaiming their ancestral traditions and paving the way for a new future. My beautiful bestie wanted this piece, which is so special to her, painted in her new home. Thank you for permitting us to paint this mural πŸ™πŸ½πŸ₯° β€” Alanah Ellen Brand
